About AFA Academy / Howard Park Center
AFA Academy (formerly Howard Park Center) is the therapy and learning division of Action for Autism (AFA), a St. Louis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Howard Park Center was originally founded in 1975 as an early intervention center for children with developmental delays. In 2010, Action for Autism (founded 2008 by Brad and Stephanie Buechler) entered an affiliation agreement with Howard Park, and in 2011 it was officially rebranded as AFA Academy. The center provides ABA therapy, special education, speech/OT/PT therapy, vocational training, and functional life skills for children and young adults ages 18 months to 21 years with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental delays. Programs are organized by age and ability level, with small staff-to-learner ratios and on-site BCBAs and RBTs. Action for Autism also operates a financial assistance program providing scholarships to families within a 250-mile radius of St. Louis.
