About Alternatives for Children
Alternatives for Children is a not-for-profit private school founded in 1988 in East Setauket, NY, providing high-quality educational and therapeutic programs for children of all abilities from infancy through preschool across Long Island. The organization is approved by the New York State Departments of Education and Health, the Office of Children and Family Services, and Nassau and Suffolk County Departments of Health. It operates as an Early Intervention Program provider under contract with Nassau and Suffolk Counties and as a New York State Preschool Special Education provider. With approximately 527 employees across five locations on Long Island, Alternatives for Children serves over 1,400 children annually through Early Intervention, Preschool Special Education, Universal Pre-K, and Child Day Care programs. Their therapeutic services include behavioral services delivered by licensed BCBAs and behavior assistants, along with occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language therapy, art therapy, music therapy, and psychological/social work services. Note: While Alternatives for Children employs BCBAs and offers behavioral services as part of their broader special education programs, ABA therapy is not their primary service — they are primarily a special education preschool and early intervention provider.
