Minnesota requires mandatory state licensure for behavior analysts effective January 1, 2025 (MN Statute 148.9981-148.9995). Administered by Board of Psychology. Must hold current BACB certification (BCBA) or equivalent, plus criminal background check. Psychologists licensed under 148.88-148.981 who practice behavior analysis are exempt.

Education Requirements

Must hold master's degree or higher meeting BACB requirements. Alternatively, completed equivalent requirements for BACB certification including satisfactorily passing psychometrically valid examination.

Must meet BACB supervised fieldwork requirements or equivalent standards.

Must hold current BACB certification (BCBA) or have passed equivalent psychometrically valid examination administered by nationally accredited credentialing organization. No additional state exam required.

Biennial renewal (every 2 years). License expires on last day of month in which originally granted, two years later. Renewal application and fee must be postmarked by expiration date. CE requirements follow BACB standards (32 CEUs every 2 years).

License Fee: $225.00 (non-refundable). FBI Background Check: $17.00. BCA Background Check: $15.00. Total Initial Cost: approximately $257. Official License Verification: $20 per request.
