Detailed Requirements
Must meet education requirements through BACB certification pathway. Master's degree required for BCBA certification with approved coursework in behavior analysis.
Supervised experience as required by BACB certification standards. Out-of-state license verification may be required to document no disciplinary actions.
Must pass the BACB certification examination. No additional state exam required.
License renewed per section 19a-88. Must maintain current BCBA certification with BACB. Beginning January 1, 2022: Complete minimum 2 hours of training on PTSD screening, suicide risk, depression, grief, and suicide prevention during first renewal and every 6 years thereafter. Training must be from CT Association for Behavior Analysis, licensed health care institution, or accredited institution of higher education.
Initial Application Fee: $350. Renewal Fee: $175 (for renewals after October 1, 2021). Reinstatement Fee: $350.
BCBA certification from BACB is required for state licensure. The Department verifies BCBA certification online as part of the application process. Both BCBA certification and state license must be maintained.

Out-of-state license verification required for any current or expired behavior analyst licenses held in other states (to document no disciplinary actions). Mandatory trauma-informed care training (2 hours on PTSD, suicide screening, depression, grief) starting January 2022, required during first renewal and every 6 years thereafter. Practice governed by Connecticut General Statutes Chapter 382a.
