Detailed Requirements

Education Requirements

Must have completed education requirements through BACB certification pathway. Behavior Analyst requires Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification. Assistant requires Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) certification.

Supervised experience as required by BACB certification standards.

Verification of successfully passing the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst Examination as conducted by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

Licenses expire September 30 of even-numbered years. Online renewal available through MY LICENSE portal at ProfessionalLicense.Alaska.Gov/MYLICENSE. Processing time for mail renewals may take 4-6 weeks.

Application Fee: $150 (nonrefundable). Fingerprint Processing Fee: $75. Behavior Analyst License Fee: $500 initial/$100 renewal. Assistant Behavior Analyst License Fee: $200 initial/$50 renewal. Temporary License: Available for 30 days.

BACB certification is required before applying for Alaska licensure. Applicants must provide certified true copy of BACB certification or have verification sent directly from BACB. Must pass the BACB examination.

FBI fingerprint-based criminal background check required (FD-258 card). Submit original 8x8 fingerprint card to DPS and FBI. Applications take 10-14 business days to process once materials received, plus 4-6 weeks for review. Social Security Number required for all applicants.

Additional Information

Alaska's licensing program is administered by the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. Licenses are issued for a two-year period expiring on September 30 of even-numbered years. Online applications filed through MyAlaska account. Abandoned applications are denied without prejudice after 12 months of no correspondence.
