Education Requirements

Requires completion of education requirements through BACB certification, which includes a college degree and specific coursework in behavior analysis.

Supervised experience is required as part of BACB certification. Assistant behavior analyst applicants must submit a Proof of Supervision Form.

Successful completion of the BACB certification exam is required prior to state licensure application.

Licenses are active for up to 2 years and expire December 31 of the year following issuance. Renewal deadline is December 15, with a $50 late fee thereafter. A 45-day reinstatement period is available before a new application is required.

Initial Application Fee: $25 (nonrefundable). Licensed Behavior Analyst: $150. Licensed Assistant Behavior Analyst: $100. Temporary licenses: $100. Reciprocity: $150. Renewal LBA: $150. Renewal LABA: $100. Late fee: $50. Reinstatement: $100. All fees nonrefundable.

Active BACB certification is required before applying for Alabama licensure. The state accepts BACB-BCBAs and BACB-BCaBAs. BACB certification requires a college degree, specific coursework, supervised experience, and passing the certification exam.

Criminal background check required. Unlicensed practice is prohibited unless exempted. Exemptions include psychologists, physicians, graduate students under supervision, and ABA technicians under supervision. Violations can result in fines up to $1,000 or license suspension/revocation.

Additional Information

Alabama does not require licensure for Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), only for BCBAs and BCaBAs. The 45-day reinstatement period is notable for practitioners who miss the renewal deadline.
